Pep Guardiola is said to meet with his players on Friday prior to their weekend match against Rayo Vallecano to communicate his decision to them. The club is also expected to confirm the news and its consequences during the pre-match press conference.

Guardiola has been linked with English clubs Chelsea, Manchester United and also the Three Lions. Nevertheless – having tasted ultimate success, the pressure that comes along with it and the pain that follows the inability to keep the momentum – the former Barcelona B coach might just opt to take a break from football.

The Telegraph quoted him saying after the Chelsea match: "I will speak with (assistant manager) Tito and see what we have to do.

"Right now, we need to talk more about the emotions of our players and how they recover because there are many players who have been playing a long time.”

Guardiola is described as a comprehensible person by Barcelona’s playmakers, and it is the power of unity that helped the team win two UEFA Champions League crowns, three La Liga titles, one Spanish Cup, three Supercopas, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups since 2008. The legendary tactician however declared that he wouldn’t let anything ruin the rest of the club’s season.

“We have to go to Rayo Vallecano (next up), we are still Barca,” he said. “We have to continue doing things as we usually do them.

Pep Guardiola could win what would be his very last trophy at the club as the senior coach when he faces Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final later in May. In the case of any fiasco, then he will be leaving the Catalans with no trophy out of the three that were put before him at the start of the season.
